El Segundo, California — A Southern California community is mourning the loss of an 8-year-old boy who died after becoming unresponsive during a World Cup watch party, an incident authorities believe may have been the result of an accidental drowning.
The tragedy unfolded on the evening of June 12, when emergency responders were called to a residence in El Segundo after reports of a child in medical distress.
The boy, later identified as Taylor Thach, was rushed to the hospital after lifesaving efforts were performed at the scene, but he was unable to recover.

According to the El Segundo Police Department, officers responded to a home at approximately 7:30 p.m. after receiving reports of an unresponsive child.
First responders immediately began lifesaving measures before transporting Taylor to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center for further treatment.
Despite those efforts, the 8-year-old later died.
Investigators said the incident occurred during a World Cup watch party being hosted at another family’s residence.
While authorities continue gathering information, officials say early findings point toward a tragic accident.
“Every sign points to accidental drowning,” El Segundo Police Department Investigations Lieutenant Eric Atkinson said, noting that an official autopsy had not yet been completed.
Police emphasized that the investigation remains active as detectives continue interviewing individuals who attended the gathering.
