Lukas Gage, known for his role in The White Lotus, has recently revealed in an interview with Screen Rant that filming for the eagerly-awaited sequel, Smile 2, under Paramount Pictures, has wrapped up. Slated for an October 18, 2024, theatrical release, the sequel promises to deliver a uniquely fresh take on the horror genre, as hinted by Gage.

Gage expressed his enthusiasm for the project, noting the production’s wrap in upstate New York and his anticipation for audiences to experience the new installment. He highlighted the sequel’s innovative direction under Parker Finn, “It’s gonna be really good. I’m really excited for everyone to see that one,” he remarked, emphasizing Finn’s profound understanding of the horror domain and his ability to inject novel elements into the sequel.

“Doing a lot of sequels, it feels like, this year. The year of the sequel. I hope you like it. Parker Finn, it was crazy how much he knows this genre of movies and how he was able to recreate it and make it fresh.”

Cast and Creatives Behind Smile 2
The team bringing Smile 2 to life includes writer and director Parker Finn, who returns after the success of the original film in the series, joined by a cast that comprises Naomi Scott (Aladdin), Dylan Gelula (Dream Scenario), Rosemarie DeWitt (Poltergeist), Raúl Castillo (Army of the Dead), and Miles Gutierrez-Riley, with Kyle Gallner reprising his role as Joel from the 2022 hit.

The original film, also helmed by Finn, emerged from the 2020 short film Laura Hasn’t Slept and featured an ensemble cast that led to its critical acclaim and formidable box office success, surpassing $200 million worldwide against a modest $17 million budget. The narrative centered on Dr. Rose Cotter who, after encountering a traumatic event with a patient, finds herself engulfed in unexplainable, terrifying experiences compelling her to face her past to survive an appalling new reality.

Smile 2 aims to continue this legacy of spine-chilling storytelling, integrating familiar elements with novel concepts that promise to invigorate the franchise and allure audiences once more.
