Detroit About to Get Its Own Hollywood Sign: In Time to See the Restoration of Michigan’s Film Incentives,
Welcoming the 2024 NFL Draft with Open Arms!

Detroit is on the verge of a thrilling transformation as it prepares to host the 2024 NFL Draft from April 25-27 in the heart of downtown. Among the myriad of enhancements planned for the city, a standout feature captures the imagination and pride of all Detroiters—a brand-new “DETROIT” landmark sign, reminiscent of the iconic Hollywood signage but with a Motor City twist.

A Sign of Progress and Pride

Situated strategically along eastbound Interstate 94, between Wyoming and Central avenues, this dazzling addition stands as a testament to Detroit’s revitalization and spirit. The 10-foot-tall letters, expertly crafted to appear as if floating amidst lush greenery, will proudly don the city’s colors of green and white, illuminating the way for residents and visitors alike.

“We’re introducing a symbol of Detroit’s vibrant culture and history,” commented Jessica Parker, Deputy Chief Operations Officer for Detroit. “It’s going to be like the Hollywood sign, but understandably more personal to us—highlighting our unique identity and resilience.”

This ambitious project, which received a nod of approval following a competitive bidding process in October, has been entrusted to the Detroit-based Fairmount Sign Company, a firm with a legacy of noteworthy contributions to the city’s landscape, including the Fox Theatre and Wayne State University signs along Woodward Avenue.

“Their expertise and connection to Detroit made them the perfect choice,” noted Parker. The fabrication of the letters is underway, with installation anticipated by early April, ensuring that the sign makes its grand debut well in advance of the NFL draft festivities.

Enhancing Gateways to the Motor City

In addition to the “DETROIT” sign, this initiative encompasses the installation of new aluminum “Welcome to Detroit” gateway signs at key entry points around the city, including:

  • I-75 and 8 Mile
  • I-96 and Telegraph
  • I-94 at Moross Road
  • Southfield Road at 8 Mile
  • Southfield Road and Ford Road

These markers are designed to warmheartedly greet both residents and visitors, reinforcing the sense of belonging to something greater—a community united in its diversity and dynamism.

Community engagement has been a cornerstone of the planning process. “We consulted extensively with District 6 City Manager Eva Torres and the local community to ensure our plans resonate with the aspirations and pride of Detroiters,” shared Parker. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, mirroring the city’s anticipation and excitement for the upcoming draft and the visibility it will bring to Detroit on a national stage.

A City United and Transformed

As Detroit gears up for the 2024 NFL Draft, these developments symbolize more than just physical improvements—they embody the spirit of resurgence and communal pride. For residents, local businesses, and NFL fans, these enhancements promise not only to beautify our city but to strengthen our sense of community and shared purpose.

Let’s embrace these exciting changes and look forward to showcasing the heart of Detroit to the world. Together, as one resilient community, we’re not just preparing for an event; we’re setting the stage for the future of our beloved city. Detroit, let’s get ready to shine!
