Listen: Psychedelic Symposium

Summary

  • Aspen, known for lifelong learning, will host a Psychedelics Symposium.
  • The symposium gains significance with the passing of Colorado’s Proposition 122, decriminalizing psychedelic substances for those 21 and over.

Aspen, known for its dedication to lifelong learning, is set to host a groundbreaking event: a Psychedelics Symposium. Breeze Richardson, executive director of Aspen Public Radio, emphasized the importance of this event in a recent email. “One of the things I love about Aspen is the commitment to lifelong learning,” Richardson said.

And indeed, there is much to learn.

Aspen Public Radio, under Richardson’s leadership, is producing this symposium to delve into the rapidly evolving world of psychedelics. When asked about the motivation behind the event, Richardson highlighted the natural curiosity surrounding the topic. “Aren’t you curious about the legalization of psychedelics? Public Media has always championed curiosity—and research has shown curious people are happier. Curiosity leads to more enjoyment and participation in the world around you, and being curious can expand empathy and strengthen relationships.”

Aspen, with its history of delivering extraordinary events, will once again be at the forefront, thanks to KAJX, the station Richardson helms. This marks the second year of the symposium, which gains particular relevance following the passage of Colorado’s Proposition 122. This law decriminalizes the possession and use of psychedelic mushrooms and certain plant-based psychedelic substances for individuals aged 21 and over.

Some believe Proposition 122 could do for psilocybin what Amendment 64 did for marijuana—usher in a new era of acceptance and use.

Zach Leary, son of the renowned Timothy Leary and an advocate for psilocybin therapy, will be among the notable voices at the event.

“We saw it as an opportunity to bring a remarkable collection of experts together and convene our community to learn together,” Richardson noted.

The two-day gathering promises expert panels, groundbreaking research, and firsthand insights into the transformative world of psychedelic medicines. A March press release states, “Tradition, science, and advocacy will be explored. Scientists, doctors, and luminaries will be present to delve into the future of psychedelics.”

Symposium passes are available at aspenshowtix.com for $100 per person for the full two-day event, with single-day passes available for $60 each. Organizers have aimed to provide affordable access to this important conversation.

This event is sponsored by NeuroSpa, committed to inspiring inner and outer beauty, strength, and wellness. Additional support comes from Epiphany Mushroom Co., SeedFund Capital, Wondermed, Naropa University Center for Psychedelic Studies, Vicente LLP, and Will and Nathalia Dolan.
