Los Angeles police officers took a dirt bike rider into custody in South Los Angeles on [date] following an extended pursuit that wound through several parts of the city, according to LAPD.
Officers began chasing the suspect, who was allegedly armed with a gun, near Dodger Stadium. The pursuit continued through downtown Los Angeles along Figueroa Street before moving into Watts and East Los Angeles.
During the chase, the suspect engaged in a series of erratic maneuvers, including using his cellphone while riding, standing up on the moving motorcycle, and riding against traffic. At one point, he stopped at a gas station on South Alameda Street in East Los Angeles to refuel, then rode off with the gas nozzle still attached to the bike.
The pursuit also crossed through two public parks. The suspect rode across a field at Earvin “Magic” Johnson Park before leading officers onto a field at Athens Park, where park visitors moved out of the way as the chase circled through the area.
The suspect eventually abandoned the motorcycle and fled on foot into a South Los Angeles neighborhood near 112th Street and South Broadway. He was taken into custody after surrendering to officers in the driveway of a nearby home.
