Black Tow Truck Sought in Deadly South Philadelphia Hit-and-Run

A search is underway for a black tow truck that struck and killed a man Sunday night in South Philadelphia before speeding away, according to police.

The crash happened around 9:30 p.m. at the intersection of 26th Street and Penrose Avenue, a busy corner in the neighborhood. Officers say the truck hit the man and then dragged him roughly 35 to 40 yards down the roadway before he was finally left behind.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Philadelphia Police Inspector DF Pace said the victim was an unhoused man who was well known in the local community, though his name has not yet been released.

Investigators are now working to track down the tow truck and its driver, who fled the area immediately after the collision. No arrests have been made as of Sunday night, and police have not released a description of the vehicle beyond its color.

Anyone with information about the truck or the crash is urged to contact Philadelphia Police.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more details become available.
