CORAL SPRINGS, Florida — A Caribbean restaurant was shut down by state inspectors last month after they found live roaches crawling in the kitchen and a string of conditions that raised immediate health concerns.
Foodeyez Caribbean, located at 6268 West Sample Road, was ordered to close on July 30 following an inspection by the Florida Department of Health.
Live Roaches Found Behind the Steam Table
The most alarming finding was active roach activity inside the kitchen itself.
Inspectors documented live roaches behind the steam table — one of the most critical areas in any food service kitchen, used to keep prepared food warm before it reaches a customer’s plate.
Dead roaches were also found in multiple other areas of the restaurant.
Roaches Were Not the Only Problem
The inspection uncovered issues beyond the roach activity.
Dead roaches were discovered behind refrigerators at the front counter and inside a flip-top cooler on the cook line — equipment that comes into direct contact with food being prepared for customers.
The floor behind cooking equipment was also cited for a buildup of food debris and soiling.
Standing Water and Temperature Violations
Inspectors found standing water on the floor behind the cooking equipment — a condition that can accelerate bacterial growth and attract pests.
Temperature control for foods requiring refrigeration was also flagged as a violation, raising concerns about whether perishable items were being stored safely.
What Happens Next
In total, inspectors documented 10 violations before issuing the closure order.
The restaurant was told it must address every violation and pass a reinspection before being cleared to reopen its doors to the public.
