He let his cousin use his shower — minutes later, his wife watched him get shot dead

WACO, Texas — Yotanca Calhoun had done nothing wrong that Sunday night. He let his cousin come over, use the shower, and waited on the couch with his wife while the man cleaned up.

What happened next would cost him his life.

A Favor That Turned Fatal

According to police, Michael Calhoun, 43, walked out of the bathroom, looked at his cousin, and said — “This is for you.”

Then he opened fire.

Yotanca Calhoun, 49, was shot multiple times — in the head, neck, shoulder, chest, and groin — inside his own home on Summer Avenue.

His wife was sitting right there when it happened.

Wife Survived by Hiding Under a Table

As bullets flew, the woman dropped to the floor and hid underneath a table.

Michael Calhoun allegedly turned the gun on her too — but ran out of ammunition before he could reach her.

She seized the moment and ran to a bedroom closet to hide.

“Don’t Do It” — Suspect Called Out to Her

While she sheltered in the closet, Michael Calhoun allegedly called out to her — “Don’t do it” — before eventually leaving the residence.

When she came out, she found her husband on the floor, unresponsive.

Officers arrived just after 9:45 p.m. and pronounced Yotanca Calhoun dead at the scene.

Arrested Blocks Away the Same Night

Michael Calhoun did not get far.

Police located and arrested him later that same night along the 2600 block of Alexander Avenue — roughly five blocks from where the shooting took place.

He now faces one count of first-degree murder and is currently held in McLennan County Jail on a $1 million bond.

The investigation is ongoing.
