JUNEAU, Alaska — When a family member started cleaning out a deceased relative’s home, they never expected to find what was inside an old chest freezer in an outbuilding on the property.
What they found was a human body, wrapped in a tarp.
Juneau police have now identified the remains as those of Ross Pasquan. But the questions surrounding his death are far from answered.
No One Ever Asked Where He Went
What makes this case deeply unsettling is not just how he was found — it is how long he had apparently been there.
Investigators believe Pasquan had been dead somewhere between four and ten years. In all that time, no missing person report was ever filed.
“Nobody was just asking the question where he was,” said Juneau Police Chief Derek Bos.
That silence, investigators say, is consistent with a death that was deliberately concealed.
A Death That May Have Been Hidden for Financial Gain
Police are not yet calling it a homicide. But they are not ruling it out either.
The property where Pasquan was found belonged to a deceased owner, leaving the estate in legal limbo. Access to the outbuilding had been extremely limited.
Authorities are now examining whether someone had a financial motive to keep Pasquan’s death hidden. His age remains unknown because the exact time of his death has not been established.
The medical examiner’s findings are still pending.
Investigators are working to identify Pasquan’s contacts, including employers and medical providers, to piece together the final years of his life.
