KANSAS CITY, Missouri — A 38-year-old mother is dead, and her children are left with memories no child should ever have to carry.
Police say Antwon Shirley, 43, kicked in a bedroom door on Agnes Avenue in the North Town Fork Creek neighborhood and shot Nevada N. Mosley twice while her children were inside the home.
What officers found that morning
Officers arrived just before 7 a.m. on Aug. 1 to find Mosley in her bedroom with two gunshot wounds. She was rushed to a hospital but did not survive.
Shell casings were on the floor. The bedroom door had been kicked in. Surveillance footage placed Shirley’s vehicle outside the home at the time.
A young girl witnessed the shooting
Three children were in the home. Two were asleep. One girl was awake — and saw everything.
She told police she watched Shirley point his gun at Mosley. The victim tried to get out of bed but hit her head on a dresser. Then three shots rang out. The child fled the room to find a relative.
Jealousy, a key request, and an admission
Witnesses said the couple had not been getting along. Shirley had grown “very jealous,” and Mosley had recently asked him to return her house keys.
After the shooting, he called a relative and admitted he “snapped.” He surrendered to police on Aug. 2.
Shirley now faces second-degree murder, armed criminal action, burglary, firearm possession, and two counts of child endangerment charges. He is held on a $500,000 cash-only bond. His preliminary hearing is set for Sept. 2.
