New Jersey is heading into a dangerous stretch of heat, humidity, and daily storm threats — and forecasters say it will only intensify as the week goes on.
Wednesday Brings Storms and Sticky Air
A warm front is expected to push north through the state overnight, arriving with clouds, patchy fog, and light morning showers by Wednesday.
By afternoon, conditions will turn stormier. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop, with some capable of producing heavy rain. Localized rainfall could exceed 1 inch in spots where storms stall over the same areas, raising the risk of flash flooding.
Temperatures will reach the low to mid-80s Wednesday, but with rising humidity, it will feel closer to the upper 80s and low 90s.
The Real Heat Arrives Thursday — And It Does Not Let Up
Starting Thursday, the pattern turns significantly more dangerous.
Highs will push into the upper 80s to around 90 degrees across the metro area and inland locations. Dew points are expected to climb into the mid-70s, pushing the heat index between 95 and 100 degrees on Thursday.
By Friday, the heat index could reach as high as 104 degrees.
Daily afternoon and evening thunderstorm chances will continue straight through the weekend. Each day carries an isolated risk of severe weather and flash flooding, particularly over areas that are already flood-prone.
Forecasters note the exact timing of the worst conditions later in the week is still uncertain as forecast models continue to differ on the broader pattern.
