HOUSTON, Texas — If you are stepping outside today, be prepared for a wall of heat the moment you open the door.
Houston is in for another brutal day, with highs climbing between 96 and 100 degrees inland and heat index values reaching as high as 108 degrees in some spots.
Near the coast, temperatures stay slightly lower, in the low to mid-90s — but the humidity makes it feel dangerous regardless of where you are.
Watch Out for Fog This Morning
Before the heat takes over, patchy fog is possible early this morning, especially west of I-45.
Visibility could drop quickly in affected areas. The fog should lift shortly after sunrise, but drivers should use caution during the morning commute.
A similar round of fog may return Wednesday morning.
Slim Chance of a Storm This Afternoon
Most of Southeast Texas stays dry today, but an isolated shower or thunderstorm could fire up during the afternoon hours, mainly near the I-10 corridor and the broader Houston metro area.
Do not count on it for relief. Coverage will be very limited.
This same pattern holds through Wednesday, with heat remaining the main concern heading into midweek.
Relief Arrives Later This Week
Deeper moisture from the Gulf begins pushing into Southeast Texas by Thursday.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms become possible Thursday and Friday, with rain chances near 40 percent. Storms are expected to develop mainly during the afternoon and early evening.
Not everyone will see rain, but it will feel meaningfully different from the dry stretch this week.

- Drink water consistently throughout the day
- Avoid strenuous outdoor activity in the afternoon
- Take breaks in air conditioning whenever possible
- Check on children, elderly neighbors, and pets
- Never leave anyone in a parked car
