A 22-year-old St. Paul man was shot and killed late July 29 after leaving his home to help a woman in a domestic violence situation, his family says. Cion Jordan died after arriving at Regions Hospital. He was one of two men shot that night. No arrests have been made.
Two Phone Calls Changed Everything
According to Jordan’s mother, Malinda Aguilar, her son received two calls shortly before midnight. Both were about a woman who had been beaten. Jordan was with a relative at the time, who said he initially refused to get involved after the first call. The second call changed his mind.
Aguilar said her son may not have known he was walking into a dangerous situation. “He was a protector, but not like to jump into danger like that. He had a soft spot for girls. He was a gentleman all the way,” she said.
What Police Know So Far
The St. Paul Police Department confirmed the shooting but has not named any suspects or the second victim. Aguilar believes the other man shot that night was the same person who had been assaulting the woman.
Police are currently reviewing phone and social media activity of everyone involved in the incident. Aguilar noted that women present at the scene have not been cooperating with investigators, saying, “I do not know what these girls were up to. Why are they not speaking?”
A Family Left With Questions
Aguilar told reporters she holds no anger toward those involved, saying she does not yet know the full story. Her focus now is on getting answers. “Every message that was sent between the group will be known,” she said.
Jordan’s stepfather has launched a GoFundMe to cover funeral expenses.
