A Michigan man who armed himself with body armor to “secure” his brother’s house has been convicted of first-degree murder after opening fire on a group of people who came to feed puppies — killing a 22-year-old mother sitting in the back seat.
What Led to the Shooting
Alexander James Aydelotte, 28, showed up at his brother’s home on Gilmartin Street in Flint on the evening of March 28, 2025. The house had been vandalized multiple times in recent weeks, and Aydelotte was there to protect it.
Earlier that day, a former resident had dropped off several puppies at the home. That night, he returned with a group of people to feed the dogs. When he noticed an open door that had previously been closed, he turned back toward the car — and that’s when Aydelotte stepped onto the front porch and opened fire.
A Young Mother Never Had a Chance
Diamonique Jackson, 22, was sitting in the back seat when the bullets hit. She was struck twice and died at the scene. She had nothing to do with any dispute between Aydelotte and the former resident.

Self-Defense Claim Rejected
Aydelotte claimed self-defense, telling officers he saw a gun in the vehicle. No weapon was ever found.
Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton addressed the verdict directly: “Arming yourself, putting on body armor and firing into a car full of people is not self-defense — it is the decision that took Diamonique Jackson’s life, and this jury saw that clearly.”
Conviction and Sentencing
Aydelotte was convicted of first-degree murder, two counts of attempted murder, and three counts of felony firearm. He is scheduled to be sentenced on August 24 and faces life in prison.
