A 23-year-old North Carolina man is facing a first-degree murder charge after investigators say he shot his 19-year-old girlfriend in the head inside her own car — hours after texting her about a murder-suicide agreement.
The shooting happened Sunday afternoon on Interstate 77 in Iredell County, near Exit 35 in Mooresville. Officers responded around 4:30 p.m. after a black Kia crashed along the highway. When they arrived, they found both a man and a woman inside the car, each suffering from gunshot wounds to the head. Both were rushed to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.
By Wednesday, authorities confirmed the young woman had died from her wounds. Officials have not publicly released her name.
J’Kobe Tre’shon Ramseur, 23, has been charged with first-degree murder.
According to Mooresville Police Chief Ron Campurciani, text messages between the two began just after midnight Sunday. At 8 a.m., Ramseur allegedly texted his girlfriend proposing a murder-suicide pact. He continued messaging her, pressuring her to come pick him up. She eventually did.
The texts stopped around 2:30 p.m. — leaving investigators unclear about what happened in the final two hours before the couple was found shot inside the vehicle. Ramseur was riding in the passenger seat; his girlfriend was behind the wheel.
Investigators say Ramseur shot himself after shooting his girlfriend. A bullet remained in his head when he arrived at the hospital and was later surgically removed.
Chief Campurciani described the relationship as “a real tumultuous relationship,” noting that the couple had prior domestic-related violations across surrounding counties. Ramseur is also said to be well-known to law enforcement in the area.
The investigation remains ongoing. No additional suspects have been identified.
