A Las Vegas couple accused of causing their 3-year-old daughter’s death and concealing what happened to her for nearly a decade have finally been sentenced, closing a case that began with a missing child report in 2018.
Ricky Beasley, 34, and Lakeia Walker, 35, appeared before a Clark County judge last week. Beasley pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, while Walker pleaded guilty to acting as an accessory after the fact. Beasley was sentenced to 10 to 25 years in prison, with credit for more than seven years already served. Walker received probation, along with a suspended sentence that will take effect if she violates her release terms, which bar contact with Beasley.
According to prosecutors, the couple’s daughter, Zaela, disappeared in 2018. For months, Beasley and Walker claimed she was staying with relatives. That story fell apart after a family member came forward, telling investigators she witnessed Beasley grow furious with the toddler after she wet herself, followed by a loud impact and the child crying in his arms.
Investigators say Walker later described a vehicle trunk that had a foul odor, and admitted to helping clean it using a scent-masking cleaning solution. A failed polygraph and recorded jail calls, in which Walker allegedly referenced the phrase “no body, no crime,” further shaped the prosecution’s case. Zaela’s remains have never been located.
A senior county prosecutor told the court there was no doubt the child suffered for hours without medical care, calling the pair’s actions among the most severe he had encountered.
Addressing the couple directly, the presiding judge said she believed both parents knew what truly happened to their daughter, and that carrying that truth privately would remain one of the heaviest burdens they would face.
Beasley told the court he accepts full responsibility, describing his daughter’s absence as something that will stay with him permanently.
