Hillsboro, OR- A morning that started with a routine breakfast at McDonald’s ended in a Hillsboro hospital for Estefania Lopez, 22, after an SUV driver allegedly ran her over — not once, but twice — before fleeing the scene on July 13.
Lopez had just finished eating and was walking to her nearby job at Ulta Beauty when the attack unfolded around 7 a.m. off Town Center Drive. She said she made eye contact with the driver of a stopped SUV before stepping into the crosswalk — and then everything changed.
“I remember being almost to the other side of the pavement and I just hear a car screech and accelerating. Next thing I know, I’m being hit.”
According to Lopez, after the first impact the driver did not stop — instead deliberately striking her a second time before fleeing. She lay on the ground alone, seriously injured, with no one stopping to help.
The injuries were severe. Lopez suffered a fractured pelvis and a broken bone in her lower back. She spent four days in the hospital, though doctors confirmed surgery was not required. She is now recovering at home using a walker and wheelchair, facing an estimated three-month road to full recovery.
The financial toll has compounded her trauma. Because her insurance was not accepted at the treating hospital, Lopez is now facing a medical bill of nearly $20,000 — and has launched a GoFundMe campaign to help cover the costs.
Hillsboro Police are currently investigating the incident. The make and model of the SUV remain unknown, and investigators are actively reviewing surveillance footage from businesses near the scene in hopes of identifying the driver or the vehicle.
Lopez believes the driver hit her intentionally. As of now, no arrests have been made and the suspect remains at large. Anyone with information on the incident is urged to contact Hillsboro Police Department.
