Baltimore, Maryland — After a day of widespread rainfall across central Maryland, residents can look forward to a refreshing change in weather as sunshine, lower humidity, and comfortable temperatures return for the middle of the week.
Several areas received significant rainfall, helping to cool temperatures and temporarily reduce humidity levels. Forecasters say Wednesday will likely offer the most pleasant weather conditions of the week before another round of showers and thunderstorms arrives later in the forecast.
Heavy Rainfall Soaks Parts of Maryland
Rainfall totals were impressive across portions of the state.
Meteorologists reported that more than one inch of rain fell at Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport, while several communities in Montgomery County also recorded rainfall totals exceeding an inch.
Across much of the Baltimore metropolitan area, more than half an inch of rain was measured, providing much-needed moisture but also creating wet travel conditions during parts of the day.
As the storm system moved away, skies began clearing Tuesday night, allowing cooler and drier air to settle into the region.
Wednesday Expected to Be the Best Day of the Week
Weather conditions are forecast to improve significantly by Wednesday morning.
Overnight temperatures are expected to fall into the 50s and lower 60s, creating a cool and comfortable start to the day under mostly clear skies.
Forecasters are calling Wednesday the “pick day” of the week thanks to abundant sunshine, lighter winds, and noticeably lower humidity levels.
Afternoon temperatures are expected to climb into the mid-80s, providing warm but comfortable conditions for outdoor activities, errands, and recreation.
The combination of sunshine and reduced humidity should make the day feel much more pleasant compared to the muggy conditions experienced earlier this week.
Dry Weather Continues Into Thursday
The favorable weather pattern is expected to continue into Thursday.
Current forecasts indicate a mix of sunshine and clouds throughout the day, with dry conditions prevailing for most locations.
Humidity levels are expected to remain manageable, and temperatures will likely reach the mid-to-upper 80s during the afternoon hours.
While a few clouds may develop, forecasters say most communities should remain rain-free through daylight hours.
The relatively comfortable conditions will provide another opportunity for residents to enjoy outdoor plans before weather conditions become more unsettled.
Storm Chances Increase Friday and Saturday
The quiet stretch of weather will not last long.
Meteorologists expect humidity levels to begin rising again by Friday as warmer and more moisture-rich air returns to the region.
Temperatures are forecast to approach 90 degrees Friday afternoon, creating conditions favorable for the development of showers and thunderstorms.
Strong Storms Could Bring Damaging Winds, Hail and Flooding Across Kansas This Week
The highest chance for storms currently appears to be Friday afternoon and evening, with unsettled weather expected to continue into Saturday.
Saturday could feature extended periods of clouds, scattered rain, and thunderstorms throughout much of the day.
As a result, temperatures are expected to be noticeably cooler than Friday despite the humid conditions.
Sunday Looks Better for Outdoor Plans
Residents hoping for improved weekend weather may find Sunday to be the better option.
While a few isolated showers or thunderstorms cannot be ruled out, forecasts suggest that much of the day will remain dry.
Any rainfall that develops is expected to be scattered and less widespread than the activity anticipated on Friday and Saturday.
With fewer storms and more dry periods expected, Sunday currently appears to offer the most favorable weather conditions for outdoor activities across Maryland.
