Actors’ Strike Pushes Back “Mission: Impossible 8” to May 2025
Paramount confirms new release date due to production delays

• Paramount pushed back the release of “Mission: Impossible 8” from June to May 2025 due to ongoing strikes by SAG-AFTRA.
• The Memorial Day slot previously occupied by “Mission: Impossible 8” is now being filled by “A Quiet Place: Day One,” which will be released on June 28, 2024.
• The untitled “SquarePants” film was moved to December 19, 2025, to compete with the third installment of the “Avatar” series.
• Paramount referred to the film as “Mission: Impossible” instead of its previous title, hinting at a possible name change.
• Due to production delays caused by the strike, Paramount decided to delay the film until it can be completed in time for a summer release.
• With its expected three weeks of play on Imax screens, “Mission: Impossible 8” has high expectations set for it when it releases in May 2025.

Mission: Impossible franchise fans will have to wait a bit longer for the highly anticipated eighth installment. Paramount announced that “Mission: Impossible 8” has been delayed from release date to May 23, 2025. The reason for the delay? Ongoing strikes by the Screen Actors Guild and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA).

This delay has also caused a reshuffling of release dates for other films. The Memorial Day slot previously held by “Mission: Impossible 8” will now be filled by the film “A Quiet Place: Day One.” This spin-off prequel of the popular horror franchise will now hit theaters on June 28, 2024, instead of its initial March 2024 release.

Not just “Mission: Impossible 8” is affected by these changes. The untitled “SquarePants” film, originally scheduled for May 2025, has been moved to December 19, 2025, to compete with the third installment of the “Avatar” series.

Paramount’s announcement referred to the film as “Mission: Impossible” instead of its previous title, “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning, Part Two.” Could this signal a name change for the film?

The strikes have caused significant disruptions to the film industry, with production coming to a halt. With no end to the strike, Paramount decided to delay the film as it would not be possible to complete it in time for a June release. Paramount hopes that “A Quiet Place: Day One” will fill the gap and perform well at the box office.

As the first major release set for Memorial Day 2025, “Mission: Impossible 8” will have the advantage of three weeks of play on Imax screens, unlike its predecessor. Fans will have to wait patiently for the thrilling, action-packed film and see how it lives up to the high expectations set by the franchise.
