Breaking News: David Gordon Green’s Future Involvement in Exorcist Reboot Doubtful

Contrary to previous plans, it seems that David Gordon Green may not direct the next two Exorcist movies. However, this doesn’t necessarily mean he’s been fired.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Green stated that he’s currently evaluating potential projects and balancing his commitments to the Exorcist franchise and HBO’s The Righteous Gemstones.

While he expressed excitement if he can make the next movie, his involvement is not confirmed.

The second installment, “The Exorcist: Deceiver,” is already scheduled for release in April 2025. This follows the trend set by Green’s Halloween trilogy, disregarding previous sequels.

Despite a lukewarm response to the initial film, Universal is heavily invested after paying $400 million for the franchise rights.

With such a hefty investment, the studio will likely explore various avenues to profit, from potential theme parks to video games and TV spin-offs.

Regardless of Green’s participation, it’s highly probable that the next two Exorcist movies will be made.

One person who won’t be bothered by requests to watch them is the original director, William Friedkin.

He has previously expressed skepticism about the franchise’s longevity beyond the first movie.
