Oppenheimer is set to become the highest-grossing biopic ever, surpassing Bohemian Rhapsody.
Christopher Nolan’s historical drama Oppenheimer is breaking records and is on track to surpass $900 million at the international box office this week.
The film is poised to dethrone Bohemian Rhapsody as the most successful biopic ever.
Cillian Murphy’s portrayal of J. Robert O will take the crown from Bohemian Rhapsody, which earned $903 million during its box office run from 2018 to 2019.
Supported by strong international ticket sales, Oppenheimer performed exceptionally well in the U.K., Germany, and China, garnering $48 million. However, it failed to make an impact in Japan.
Despite competition from Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, Oppenheimer remains Christopher Nolan’s most successful film since his Batman era in 2012.
It continues to generate revenue even in its ninth week in theaters.
With Oscar season approaching, Universal may re-release the film to remind audiences why it is expected to receive numerous award nominations.
