Quentin Tarantino Set to Make Final Film in Los Angeles with A Generous Tax Credit Celebrated filmmaker Quentin Tarantino is returning to Los Angeles, his hometown, to create his self-proclaimed "final" film. The state of California is offering a massive tax credit of $20,213,000 to support the production of Tarantino's tenth movie. This incentive is part of a larger package of $77.8 million tax incentives granted to 16 films by the California Film Commission. Tarantino expressed his excitement about shooting in California: "I started directing movies here, and it is only fitting that I shoot my final motion picture in the cinema capital of the world." The acclaimed director praised the talented crews and the remarkable locations Los Angeles offers. Tarantino and the producers are thrilled to work on this project in their hometown. This is not the first time Tarantino has showcased the City of Angels on the big screen. His previous movie, "Once Upon A Time In Hollywood," received $18 million in tax credits in 2017, helping to boost job creation and on-location shooting in Greater LA. However, it is worth noting that the current strike by the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and SAG-AFTRA has significantly reduced production in Los Angeles. Despite the strike, the California Film Commission remains optimistic about the future of local production. Executive Director Colleen Bell stated that the approved projects will contribute to a surge of California-based output once the strikes are resolved. The films announced today are expected to bring $670 million in production spending to California, benefiting both below-the-line crew members and local vendors. Among the 16 projects awarded tax incentives, 13 are independent films. In addition to Tarantino's final film, an Untitled Netflix Project and Under My Skin from Sony also received substantial incentives. These three films alone are projected to generate record-breaking spending in California. Although the strikes continue, applications for small-screen projects are already open until September 13. The next application period for big screen projects will begin on January 8, 2024. Despite the current challenges, the future of California's film industry remains promising.
