“Bax Axe” is a documentary about a closely-knit family of Cambodian immigrants. They move to Bad Axe, Michigan, to start anew during the peak of a pandemic and civil unrest. An Asian-American family in Trump’s rural America, they fight to keep their restaurant and American dream alive in the face of a pandemic, Neo-Nazis, and generational scars from the Killing Fields.
Directed by David Siev, starring Skyler Janssen, Michael Meinhold, Chun Siev, Jaclyn Siev, Raquel Siev, and Austin Turmell as themselves. “Bad Axe” recently premised at SXSW, a conference that features TV and Film Festivals, Comedy Festivals, and Music Festivals. There, it won a Special Jury Recognition for Exceptional Intimacy in Storytelling and was the Audience Award Winner for a Documentary Feature.
