“Bax Axe” is a documentary about a closely-knit family of Cambodian immigrants. They move to Bad Axe, Michigan, to start anew during the peak of a pandemic and civil unrest.  An Asian-American family in Trump’s rural America, they fight to keep their restaurant and American dream alive in the face of a pandemic, Neo-Nazis, and generational scars from the Killing Fields.

Directed by David Siev, starring , Jaclyn Siev, Raquel Siev, and Austin Turmell as themselves. “Bad Axe” recently premised at SXSW, a conference that features TV and Film Festivals, Comedy Festivals, and Music Festivals. There, it won a Special Jury Recognition for Exceptional Intimacy in Storytelling and was the Audience Award Winner for a Documentary Feature.

Now, local Michigan residents can catch it at the following Celebration Cinemas.

  • Celebration Cinema Crossroads (Portage)
  • Celebration Cinema Lansing
  • Celebration Cinema GR North (Grand Rapids)

A limited release,  each theater only has a few showtimes to offer. However, Lansing and GR North seem to have a few more showings than Portage. You can see the showtimes here
