In memory and recognition of country music star Loretta Lynn,  the Redford Theater will present the Coal Miner’s Daughter (1980) Wednesday, October 12, at 7:30 p.m.

The Redford Theatre is paying a special tribute to country music legend Loretta Lynn, who died on October 4, 2022.  Lynn’s life story was movingly told in the 1980 biopic Coal Miner’s Daughter, starring Sissy Spacek in an Oscar-winning performance.

Coal Miner’s Daughter tells Lynn’s story from her youth in the rugged coal country of Kentucky to the bright lights of country music stardom in Nashville.  The movie is filled with many authentic touches, including Spacek doing her singing many of Lynn’s most famous songs.

Lynn chose Spacek to play her in this film, earning Spacek an Academy Award for Best Actress.  Also starring in Coal Miner’s Daughter are Tommy Lee Jones, Levon Helm, and Beverly D’Angelo (as Patsy Cline).  Country music stars appearing as themselves include Roy Acuff, Minnie Pearl, and Ernest Tubb.
