If you’ve worked on just about any commercial or film project in Metro Detroit, you have likely come across Jake Gottman.

We first met on a commercial shoot through Woodward Original and I continued to see him on other gigs as part of the Courtesy Flag Grip and Electric team.

At the time I only thought he did Grip work but during our conversations about “Why Me!?” I soon learned that he’s also a Gaffer and the rest is history.

He is one of the most passionate people I have met when it comes to his craft – and he does his job extremely well helping us shape some beautiful images with his lighting.

Gottman is a Detroit-based gaffer who takes pleasure in bringing light to any subject. With the intent of being an editor, the value of light really stuck with him a few years back while attending film school.

Having a creative outlet on set, along with having a hands-on approach has brought him to a place of fulfillment in his life, he says. Jake looks forward to improving his mix of efficient and stylistic workflow for years to come. Whether the future is in Michigan, or out of state he will have a smile for whomever he comes across.

Jake has an utmost appreciation for the people who came before him, and those with him today who take part in creating an image. “Great images are not formed alone,” and he looks forward to the “bulb he strikes with his peers.”
