We went far afield to write about this one. As you know, our focus has always been on the Michigan film industry. For this story, we went south to the Long-Horn state, Texas, to capture this one.
Suggested by friend Skeeter Murray, “Jo and the Reaper” is a new film from Dallas area storyteller M. Legend Brown. A simple “slice of life” story about a struggling couple living in Fort Worth, it stars Timeca M. Seretti *known for her roles in “NCIS: New Orleans”, and “Game of Thrones: Bleed for the Throne”) as the girlfriend of a destructive, small-time drug-dealing boyfriend played by Julius Gregory (known for First Lady 3 (2021), and Mad Money (2008).
Having lost her house when she gives him her money to manage, they move into a roach motel. Risking losing her failing business, and desperate for money without any resources on which she can rely, she goes all-in on when her boyfriend suggests she open a dice game after hours. She lets him operate a craps game in the back of her restaurant on the weekends.
The game brings in low lives from all over the neighborhood leading to robberies and carjackings outside the front door of the gambling joint. It appears that it will be in a short while that the restaurant and club are hit and it finally does.
Throughout the film, the couple makes a series of bad choices that lead to violence. Even the church’s pastor gets carjacked as well after spending some time at the crap table.
This is a departure for M. Legend Brown as he is. known for stories with good morals or positive points This movie was slow-paced and was on a one-way ticket to Hell from the very beginning. The only point to this film was the cautionary tale of how bad choices can ruin your life.
