Apollyon

Bret Miller’s “Apollyon” is now on Film Shortage.  Starring Jimmy Doom, this dark narrative is about a sickly janitor routinely going about his duties in a historic church.  From time to time, he breaks to take a pill.  He must suffer from a heart condition.

Although the sun filters through the stained-glass windows of the church as this story opens,  the light grows dim.   Hours have passed. As he cleans he encounters a form in the otherwise empty pews, who he addresses.  It’s late, the church is closed.  The form is unresponsive.

Suddenly, the form, a female, arises and starts to move towards doors that morph into a blob-like creature that sounds with a deep and growling resonance as if a giant snoring.  A portal to the afterlife?    Another figure arises from the pews.  Still another.

Apollyon is the angel of the bottomless pit in the Book of Revelation. Written and directed by Bret Miller, this 8-minute short film stars Jimmy Doom, Kimberly Cruchon Brooks, Phillip Shaun DeVone, and other extras.   Although IMDb shows a larger cast for this short, we never see the others listed.  Is this a clip from a longer production?

Production design and creature FX by Pat Bird, with music composed by Sam Redfern,  DP Adam Rock, “Apollyon” is a Split Image production.
