July 17 was the premiere of the Robert Butler horror flick “Love Immortal .” Chosen to screen at this year’s Anthem Film Festival,  it was nominated as well for Narrative Feature,  an honor given two other features.  The one, Miracle in East Texas directed by Kevin Sorbo, the other, aKasha directed by Hajooj Kuka.   For this, the festival is held in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The Anthem Film Festival is in its ninth year.   Started in 2011, it was created to provide a venue for filmmakers who care about individuality and libertarian ideals. Originally held inside a conference room on the 26th Floor at Bally’s Hotel,  today it is held in the elegant Paris Resort, Las Vegas, where seating capacity is between 200-250 attendees for  regular screenings, and 2,000 for special event screenings.   Today the Anthem Film Festival in held in conjunction with FreedomFest, “the world’s largest gathering of free minds,” where each year over 2,500 people and 250 speakers meet for a multi-national conference of ideas.

Attending the Anthem Film Festival this year for the world premiere of his feature horror movie, “Immortal Love,”  Robert was truly impressed.  As he tells it “The Anthem  Film Festival truly rocks. They have conventions, debates, discussions, and film screenings. Truly well attended with a great venue, and I just had an interview with America Voices. It’s like Sundance for the liberty crowd. Penn Jilette, Peter Schiff, Reason Magazine, John Stossel, and Justin Amash are all in attendance. ”

The best and the brightest thought leaders gather to address the attending audience about geo-politics and finance, history and philosophy, science and technology, art and literature, healthy living– and movies, of course!

FreedomFest speakers have included publisher Steve Forbes, Whole Foods CEO John Mackey, Emmy-winning journalist John Stossel, Senators Rand Paul and Marco Rubio, Skeptic Magazine publisher Michael Shermer, historian Bill Brands, Judge Andrew Napolitano and science fiction writer David Brin. Nobel laureate and New York Times columnist Paul Krugman debated Wall Street Journal columnist Steve Moore on the topics that have made Krugman infamous in libertarian circles.

Filmmakers never experience a dull moment at the Anthem Film Festival.   From engaging in  yoga classes in the mornings to listening to fascinating speakers during the day, there is plenty of time to watch and comment on each other’s movies, network with other filmmakers and potential producers, and celebrate at the Gala Awards Banquet and dance. When a filmmaker’s film is accepted, the filmmaker receives two tickets to FreedomFest and two tickets to the Gala Banquet, worth $1,200. And FreedomFest attendees love the film festival. This year viewers packed the 250-seat theater for nearly every film, and they stayed for the panel discussions about the films’ topics. One of the advantages of partnering with FreedomFest is that Anthem can enlist popular speakers like John McAfee, George Gilder, John Mackey, Colin Campbell, Jennifer Grossman, Peter Schiff, Doug Casey, Naomi Campbell to sit on the panels and talk about the film’s topic. Many of the filmmakers are invited to participate as panelists as well.

Robert’s story of vampires and tax collectors found a fitting home.  Described thus, the Anthem Film Festival was the perfect fit, ” Using blood as a metaphor for money and the U.S. Treasury as a metaphor for bloodsuckers, “Love Immortal” follows three generations of vampire women who find their lives put into jeopardy by their environmental and economic surroundings.”

How was “Immortal Love” received, Robert responds,  “Had a great screening last night where the audiences really liked it. The feedback I mostly received was “uniquely done”, “ambiguous”, “well shot”, and “well acted”. The Q and A went about 20 mins with numerous questions and comments. Most of the audiences stayed for the Q and A which is a great sign. I’m very blessed and grateful to be screening at Anthem Film Festival.”
