‘Revenge of the Mask 2’ boasts lots of BIG Michigan talent–and we have BTS photos. Cool!

By now it should come as a surprise to no one that the producers of last year’s viral sensations “Rise of the Mask’ and ‘Revenge of the Mask’ have been working on sequels. Yes, there is going to be both a “Rise of the Mask 2” and a “Revenge of the Mask 2.”

Based on the Dark Horse Comics character made famous by Jim Carey back in 1994,  “Revenge of the Mask 2,” according to producer Dylan Sides, “(This entry) is going to be bigger and darker, and yet somehow funnier than the last one.”

That is going to be a tall order to fill.  Last year’s “Rise of the Mask” which followed the Dark Horse Comics story of combative brothers who fought each other for possession and control of the mask, and the subsequent “Revenge of the Mask The Official Film,” the modern chapter in the story, went viral.

“Rise of the Mask The Official Short Film (6:53)” today boasts a staggering 17,586,153 views, 90K Likes and 110K subscribers.  And “Revenge of the Mask The Official Film”  today can claim 5,748,721 views, (even though it was pulled from youtube for over a month) 36K Likes and 110 K subscribers (never mind the smaller number of Haters. Every creative work has haters.  You cannot please everybody.)  These obviously have proven to be fan favorites.  (these numbers will no doubt change as we prepare to publish this post, the daily views show no sign of abating.)

But how do you recreate and possibly best those impressive numbers?  For one, you bring in big name talent to fill key roles in the story.   As is evident if you review either of last year’s efforts,  most of the roles were played by competent actors, but there were no bigger, name-recognized talent.

Sensing a need to move in another direction,  director Lance Kawas and producer Dylan Sides started casting for bigger talent, ie talent with that name recognition.

Said producer Dylan Sides, “We held a audition back in January for both Rise and Revenge We were still playing around with the idea of having a few bigger names in the movie because we knew we wanted to bring some bigger names from the comic book and it would be a really cool way to introduce them.  It took us about 2 1/2 weeks to deliberate who is going to play who

“We had the idea of bringing back a lot of the original players from the first film…Even though almost all of them were dead.

“So we had a lot of fun reassembling everybody and bringing in new people.  That was right around the time that we announced that both Dean and Nathan and Drew Jacobs were cast.

“We had a very famous country music singer Drew Jacobs playing a role on set,

Dean Cain and Nathan Jones.”

Drew Jacob is a up-and-coming country star whose voice is described as smooth as butter.

Dean George Cain is an American actor, producer and television show host, best known for playing the role of Clark Kent/Superman in the TV series Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. He was also host of Ripley’s Believe It or Not! and appeared in the soap opera series Hit the Floor.

Nathan Jones is an Australian actor, powerlifting champion, strongman and retired professional wrestler. He held the WWA World Heavyweight Championship once in World Wrestling All-Stars, and aligned himself with The Undertaker in World Wrestling Entertainment.

Robert “Bobby” Laenen  has taken over the role as The Mask and is doing an incredible job.

Robert Laenen is known for his work on Real Steel (2011), Bad to the Bone (2011) and D.P.D. Echo 1.

“Tim Smith plays the role of Ricky and he’s famous for the “Russian Sleep Experiment”

Timothy Smith is an actor and director, known for The Russian Sleep Experiment (2015), Morning, Noon & Night (2018)

So,  we have a lot of big Michigan talent for this one.

” We had our first table read in February.  And that’s when we knew it was real. ”
