Every so often there is one that gets by you. Although the date of the festival is yet months away, the call for this year’s no-fee early bird deadline was announced a couple of weeks ago. MMM2weekender missed this, and apologizes. This was not deliberate.
Here’s the scoop:
Soo Film Festival celebrates six years of great lakes and great movies September 12-15 in downtown Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. Films will screen at the historic Soo Theatre and Bayliss Public Library, a Superior District Library.
An open call for entries begins March 25. Documentary and all genres of fiction, feature entries and shorts, will be accepted online exclusively through FilmFreeway. The festival committee has set a no-fee early bird deadline of April 28. The regular deadline is June 9 and requires a $15 entry fee. Late entries must be submitted by July 1 with an entry fee of $20. The selected films will be announced the last week of July. Filmmakers will find complete details on the Submit a Film section of the festival’s website, soofilmfestival.org.
Festival President Jason Markstrom: “The excitement is mounting for our sixth year. It has been incredibly rewarding bringing the festival and these films to Sault Ste. Marie. The Great Lakes area is home to some tremendous talent and we enjoy showing it to everyone.”
Soo Film Festival 2019 is open to filmmakers worldwide but will continue to emphasize and showcase work from the Great Lakes region.
The 2019 Soo Film Festival organizing committee is Jason Markstrom, Allison Youngs, Mark Dobias, Pat Egan, and Susan James.
