A really big night was experienced by Jennifer Gentner, the Detroit 48 Hour Film Horror Project, and 23 teams who competed to make scary and take home the award for Best Film, and other categories. .
Held at the Orchid Ferndale, Ferndale, Michigan, this award ceremony packed the house–filmmakers were allowed to bring their family and friends– as participants awaited word as to whether a film that they had constructed in full and submitted within the constraints of 48 hours was good enough to take the prize. Not only was being the Best Film at stake, but the completed films were judged in a number of different categories.
Ater much anticipation, it was announced that Wastenow Community College‘s own Bat Boiz took Best Film First Place with their amazing film Housekeeper. This is the story of who Phil goes to check in on one of his clients, and realizes not all is right in this seemingly ordinary house.
As Jennifer Gantner tells it, “Very rarely if ever do first-year competitors at the 48 take top prize, so this is a huge accomplishment. ” In addition to Best Film 1st Place, the Bat Boiz also took Best Directing, Best Cinematography, Best Writing, Best Lighting, and Best Villain. This is an extremely talented group of people and I can’t wait to see more from them!”
The Bat Boiz, for winning Best Film of 2018 with their film Housekeeper, will go on to represent Detroit against all the other city winners around the world at Filmapalooza 2019.
