In what can best be described an exciting award show, the 48 Hour Film Project-Detroit announced Tuesday, August 14 the winners in their latest film challenge. There were some 51 film crews entered for this event and of these there were awards given in categories as diverse as Best Use of a Drone, Best Costumes, and Best Choreography.
Of the genres assigned to the participating groups, there were 26 including everything from Action/Adventure to Film de Femme, Sci-fi, Western and others.
With other awards given for Best Film, Audience Choise and Best Use of a Line, Best Use of Character and Best Use of Prop, it seems as though there were awards for almost everyone who entered. Congratulations to all who did and won.
Of those who entered the 48 Hour Film Project: Detroit this year, Johnny Flynn’s Courageous Lion Cinema took second place (with WSF Productions winning Best Film, and 52 Scripts placing 3rd) . Johnny Flynn has placed high year after year since we started following the 48 Hour Film Project: Detroit. Again, congrats to all.
As described on The 48 Hour Film Project website:
The 48 Hour Film Project-Detroit is a wild and sleepless weekend in which you and a team make a movie – write, shoot, and edit – in just 48 hours. On Friday night, teams draw a genre from a hat. They are then given a character, prop and line to include in their films. On Sunday night, in a wild dash to the drop off event, the film is turned in – and teams celebrate. The film is then screened at a local theater in front of an audience of filmmakers, friends and families.
The films screen to sold-out audiences in every city visited. Of course the filmmakers, actors, family and friends are there to enthusiastically support the premiere of the weekend’s work. Add to that supporters of the local film community, and discriminating viewers who want to see something new—something raw and alive—are there to feel the creative energy and you can see why the 48 Hour Film Project plays to sold out crowds.
