Nine Italian language students to travel to Italy with former State Representative, Anthony Forlini in June

Nine Italian language students from L’Anse Creuse High School. Harrison Township, Michigan, will travel to Italy in June with former State Representative, Anthony Forlini.

To raise funds for this trip a fundraiser for Students of Italian Language, L’Anse Cruise High School will take place at the Macomb Emagine Theater: 15251 23 Mile Rd, Macomb, MI 48042 on June 6, at 7:00pm. The documentary “Andrea Doria: Are the Passengers Saved” will screen  Please attend to support these young people’s dream.

As  37-year foreign language teacher veteran and producer of the film “Andrea Doria: Are the Passengers Saved” Pierette Domenica Simpson recounts,  “When I asked Tony (Forlini) why he has organized and plans to accompany these students to Italy, he replied, “Three years ago Franco Iaderossa of the Noi Foundation and I, teamed up to bring the Italian language to L’Anse Creuse. Now we finally are allowing the students to practice what they learned in school with students their own age in Cassino, Italy.”

Continues Pierette, “(When) My friend Tony called me and asked if I could collaborate in raising monies for these enthusiastic young people by screening my docufilm,  as a 37-year foreign language teacher veteran, the decision was easy for me. ” 

Proceeds will go toward the two-week exchange. Side trips will be taken to Roma, Napoli, and Palermo with visits to museum and historical sites to enrich the students’ heritage. Buon viaggio!


“Andrea Doria: Are the Passengers Saved” synopsis
Pierette Simpson,  was a 9-year-old immigrating to America with her grandparents,  when the catastrophic Andrea Doria-Stockholm collision occured. When Piertte uncovers a cold case that vindicates Captain Piero Calamai of the Italian luxury liner. she returns to her beloved village of Pranzalito, near Torino, to expose the shocking truth surrounding the collision in time for the 60th anniversary of the tragedy. Pierette invites her village friends and relatives to help her fulfill her dream-produce a docufilm based on her non-fiction book, “Alive on the Andrea Doria! The Greatest Sea Rescue in History”.

Pierette’s personal narration comes alive thru vignettes of her departure to the New World, survival at sea, and her arrival to the New World in pursuit of the “American Dream”. The Andrea Doria’s epic glory and demise are portrayed by impactful archival material and rare dive footage.

Written by Pierette Domenica Simpson and directed by Luca Guardabascio, “Andrea Doria: Are the Passengers Saved?”   stars Fabio Mazzari, Don Most, Mike Stoller, Marco Ricca and a strong cast of others.
