Today is Laura Innes birthday.  It was on this day,  August 16, 1957, Laura was born in Pontiac, Michigan.

Introduced to professional theater by her father, who often took the family to the Stratford Festival of Canada in Stratford, Ontario, Laura, with the support of her father,  attended Northwestern University and earned a degree in theater.

Appearing in several theater productions before her film debut in Brian De Palma’s The Fury (1978),  Laura played the role of Jody. She then played the daughter to Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara in the short-lived television sitcom The Stiller & Meara Show (1986).

In the Fall of 1995, she joined the medical drama sitcom ER (1994) in its second season. She played the part of the experienced but abrasive Dr. Kerry Weaver, a performance which earned her three Prime time Emmy nominations,  as well as three Screen Actors Guild Awards as part of the “ER” ensemble, and five nominations for Best Supporting Actress from Viewers For Quality Television.

Innes also directed several episodes of the series, as well as episodes of Brothers & Sisters, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, House, The West Wing, one of which earned her an Emmy nomination for directing.  After twelve seasons she became the show’s longest serving cast member.  She returned in the fifteenth season to appear in two more episodes.
