Today is  Brian d’Arcy James’ birthday.

Born on this day, June 30, 1968, in Saginaw, Michigan,   American actor and musician,  Brian d’Arcy James,  best known as a stage actor, is known  for his film roles for Spotlight (2015), Shrek the Musical (2013) and Game Change (2012).

Nephew of Brian Kelly. grandson of Harry Kelly (maternal grandfather) , the Governor of Michigan, from 1943 to 1947, Brian .d’Arcy James graduated from Northwestern University in 1990 with a BS in Theater.

He was nominated for Broadway’s Tony Award as Best Actor (Featured Role – Musical) for “Sweet Smell of Success,”  and “Something Rotten!.”

In 2009, James was nominated for the Tony Award for Best Performance for a Leading Actor in a Musical for Musical “Shrek – The Musical”.  and on Broadway as James Dodd in “Time Stands Still”, a new play by Donald Margulies directed by Danie Sullivan. Additional Broadway credits include Macbeth, Time Stands Still, Next to Normal, The Apple Tree, The Lieutenant of Inishmore, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Carousel, Blood Brothers and Titanic. His notable off-Broadway appearances include Hamilton, The Wild Party, Giant and The Good Thief.
