It was on this day, June 30, 1927, American actor Harvey Vernon (born Chet Smith) was born in Flint, Michigan.

A character actor,  Harvey Vernon came to Hollywood following his discharge from the Coast Guard after WWII. Over his busy and prolific career, he has appeared in films and television and has occasionally showed up on-stage.


Known best for his role as Jasper DeWitt in the television series Carter Country ( 1977-1979) , he also appeared in motion pictures as diverse as MacArthur(1977), Teen Wolf (1985) and Someone to Watch Over Me (1987).

Vernon’s earliest guest starring roles include appearances in The Rockford Files (Jerry Leedy, 1976) , The Dukes of Hazzard (Amos, 1980) , Cagney & Lacey (Ed Watts, 1986)  and Touched by an Angel (Joe Carpenter, 1996) .

In the 1990s, he guest starred on Highway to Heaven (Roy Grant, 1986), The Golden Girls (Barry, 1991), Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (Yolad Belar, 1994, in the episode “Equilibrium”) and in the The Larry Sanders Show (Wilcox, 1995).
