It was on this day, March 13, 1930,  in M(ichigan)M(ovie )H(istory),  actor Harrison Richard Young was born in Port Huron, Michigan.

Known for his roles in both the movies and TV, having starred in over 100 films and television episodes, Young is perhaps most recognized for his role as the elderly Private James Ryan in Steven Spielberg’s 1998 war epic Saving Private Ryan.

During the filming of Saving Private Ryan, Young was 67 years old, making him too young to have actually served in World War II.   Frederick “Fritz” Niland, upon whom Young’s Private Ryan was loosely based, was born in 1920.

Young was active in acting in 1976, then after returning to film and TV, between 1991 and 2005.  Young’s other credits include Passions, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and Rob Zombie‘s House of 1000 Corpses.

He died July 3, 2005.
