MJR Digital Cinemas is taking over the Cinemark Theater in Warren.

Cinemark will close on Dec. 1 for a $4.4 million renovation.  Major makeover plans    include new carpeting, tile, drapery and electronic recliners. There will be new digital projectors and Dolby sound in all of the auditoriums and 3D-format capability in four of them. The rebooted site also will have a new concession stand and a Studio Bar for adult beverages.

The new facility will be renamed MJR Universal Grand Cinema 16 and will reopen in early 2017, according to a press release from MJR.

Currently, the Cinemark Warren 16 runs recent releases like “The Angry Birds Movie” and “Alice Through the Looking Glass.” It also screens foreign-language films aimed at local ethnic communities.

The Michigan-owned and -operated chain announced this week that it has made a deal to lease the 16-screen theater in the Universal Shopping Center at 12 Mile and Dequindre.  The latest MJR acquisition will bring the chain’s total number of locations to 10.
